Meet the team

We started Go Fish because planning a trip had become more work than the trip itself - and because half the fun of fishing is telling someone about it afterwards.

Daniel Teigland

CEO & angler

Daniel has fished the Norwegian fjords since childhood, a habit handed down from both parents and both sets of grandparents. He's not a developer he's the person who kept opening five apps and a municipal website to plan one evening out, and decided the app should exist whether or not somebody else built it. He leads Go Fish's direction, product and commercial work.

Daniel grew up fishing the Norwegian fjords - his parents took him fishing, and their parents took them, long before he could cast properly himself. He's not a developer. Daniel leads the product and the direction, and keeps the commercial side of Go Fish honest about what it can actually deliver, and when.

Anja Helen Kandal

Strategy & Marketing

Anja shapes how Go Fish reaches the people it's built for positioning, brand, campaigns and the partnerships that make the app locally useful. She keeps the project honest about the distance between a good idea and something people actually use.

Anja grew up on the west coast of Norway, where going fishing wasn't really a decision anyone made - it was just what a free afternoon was for. She's spent her career in strategy and brand, and at Go Fish that means deciding who we talk to, how, and which partners that will improve teh app - the licence platforms, the clubs, the brands people already trust. Mostly, though, her job is to keep asking the uncomfortable question: is this actually useful, or does it just sound good in a meeting?

Karl Adrian Hillestad

Technical lead

Karl Adrian leads the technical side of Go Fish: the app itself, and the data behind the waters, conditions and rules that make it work in a specific place rather than in general.

Karl Adrian leads the technical side of Go Fish - the app itself, and the less visible work of turning waters, conditions and catches into data that holds up water by water, rather than in general. If Go Fish tells you something specific about a specific lake, there's a decent chance Karl Adrian is the reason it's right.

A small team in Norway, building for the anglers we actually know.

Our Story

Standing by the water, mildly irritated. That's roughly how this started.

Between work and everything else, an evening of fishing had somehow turned into an admin task. One app for the weather. Another for the map. A group chat where someone eventually says they can't make it after all.

By the time all of that was sorted, the light was going.

So we looked at what already existed. Plenty of maps. Plenty of logbooks. Nothing that dealt with the planning or the packing properly — and nothing that made it easy to bring someone along on the days you wanted company, or leave you alone on the days you didn't.

That's the gap we're building Go Fish into. Norway first, because that's where we fish, and it's the only way to get the details right before we take it anywhere else.

Europe

after that

Norway first.
Then further.

More than 40% of Norwegians fish recreationally - the highest rate anywhere in Europe. It's the right place to find out whether this works, and it happens to be exactly the community we're building it for.

Once Go Fish works properly here, we'll take it into the Nordics and then the rest of Europe, market by market. Everything is local, so each one is a proper build rather than a quick translation. There are roughly 25 million recreational anglers across Europe. We're in no rush to get to them badly.

Three things that shouldn't be this hard

PAIN POINT 1

Deciding whether to go

The weather's in one app, the map's in another, and the catch reports are wherever someone happened to post them. Everything you need to decide is out there. None of it's in the same place

PAIN POINT 2

Fishing legally

Season dates, size limits, permitted gear, the right licence. It's all public information — just scattered across sites built for administrators, not for anglers standing in a car park at 6am. It's exactly why we're building towards proper rules support, water by water.

PAIN POINT 3

Fishing with people

Fishing alone should be a choice, not just what happens when a group chat goes quiet. And whoever fished that water on Tuesday is a stranger to you, so whatever they learned out there is gone the moment they log off.

So we built one app for the whole trip

No more seven tabs and a group chat that goes quiet. Just the planning before, the knowing while you're out there, and a reason to go again afterwards. Plan it, fish it, go again.

Want it before everyone else?

We select a limited group of beta testers before launch. If you fish often enough to notice when something is wrong, we would like to hear from you.
